Preservation and Conservation

Help us preserve a piece of Sandwich’s history.
The Wesson boathouse dates back to 1902 and was considered a mini palace that sat on the shore of the pond. At the grand opening it was reported that Mr. Wesson, with his family and friends, sat there in Victorian splendor and enjoyed a Venetian boat carnival. Barges and boats with Japanese lanterns would float in the pond as a piano was played from the wood paneled parlor. Currently this piano lies in a crumpled, decayed pile in the corner of the boathouse, a metaphor for the loss of this building’s once vivacious spirit. At its essence, the boathouse is a piece of architecture that brings people together, a place to celebrate the happiness of leisure time, a reflection and reminder of a slower, gentler pace of life. As the new owner, my goal is to restore the boathouse and preserve a piece of Sandwich’s storied history. -Bernice
